The in-text citation
APA uses author and year: (Lee & Rivera, 2024). For a direct quotation, add a page or paragraph number: (Lee & Rivera, 2024, p. 42).

What is APA 7?
APA 7 is the 7th edition of the American Psychological Association style, used mostly in the social sciences, education, and nursing. Sources go on a “References” page and are cited in text by author and year.
How do I do an APA in-text citation?
Give the author’s last name and the year in parentheses: (Rivera, 2024). If you name the author in your sentence, put just the year after their name.
What if there’s no date?
Use “n.d.” (no date) in place of the year, both in the reference and in text: (Rivera, n.d.). The generator inserts this for you when the date field is empty.
How do I format the References page?
Alphabetize by author’s last name, use a half-inch hanging indent, and double-space. Only capitalize the first word of titles and subtitles (and proper nouns). The web tool’s “Copy formatted” keeps the hanging indent intact.
